Greetings everyone,
I have recently purchased a beautiful toad stool leather, softball size. I noticed that the bumps were opening up wonderfully and all seemed well, chemistry was perfect...

The I noticed these hairy legs from one of my Emerald crabs digging into the fold of the leather. I about had a heart attack as I hade these unknown hairy crabs in my tank which came with my Florida rocks... which ate all of my anonomies. So i pulled the brab off the leather and while doing so I noticed a few clean open "poors" or open "sores" however they were not discolored colored nor did they look infected or anything.

So my question is will these emerald crab guys eat my Leather?

emeralds dont eat leathers as far as i know. One of my emeralds lives under my fiji yellow leather and another one lives under my green toadstool. They do seem to like hanging around them, but they dont ever eat them. They HAVE however eaten the skin off of them when the coral is shedding, but thats not harming the coral. Just helping it actually IMO. But my fish also eat the stuff too.

If you're sure they're emeralds, i wouldnt worry.

They sound like teranchula crabs or called gorilla crabs I forget exactly, but they are bad. If they are dark grey or black hairy legs they are one of those. They are fairly common to come in live rock, more common to get those than an emerald crab.

The emerald crabs came from Byerlys fish supply in Columbus...however the Brown Gorilla guy did get flushed after he ate my stuff! I was more worried about the Emeralds...

What do you think the holes underneath could be?

I noticed my emerald crab sitting on mine last night. I made him move and he was back this morning. Nice to know it's not bad.
