leather Question

I cant say what the actual cause is, but I will bet that the hole is not from the lights. Yes, he should have more light but its not causing the hole!

Bacterial infection?
alk issue?
predator (leather nidi)?

Ask him what his "normal" salinity is and is he using a refractometer?
what about alk. Forget total hardness. I bet the alk is way low

:D +1 Lack of lights shouldn't cause a hole to form. I was curious about the alk too, but was thinking bacterial. Leather nudis?!? :eek1: What's next...

I'm with Rod. You gotta ask him what his "normal" parameters are... A refractometer(calibrated of course) and test kits that are less than a year old will help get accurate results.

Also, my 75 has 2- 40 watts on it. 1 Power-Glo and 1 Marine -Glo(actinic). I have a carpet in there, as well as acans, blastos, ricordias and zoas. All doing surprisingly well, but the 75 is hooked up to the system.

Hagen makes power glo HO T5 bulbs as well. My friend has a 55G that is lit by only two of these bulbs, an 18K and an actinic, and the coral does phenomenal. There are multiple leathers, xenia, LPS that are growing and doing very well. I would be willing to bet that there isn't enough flow in the tank. The holes in leathers are usually from predators and should probably be excised. Just cut away the damaged tissue.

he did confirm it was only a 20 watt bulb. He has since gotten he correct lighting with a little guidance. I have not heard back about any of the other Questions and don't know if I will.
