Leather Removal

How do I remove a leather from the rock it is attached to? I'm redoing the tank and want to kill the rock but keep the Leather. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

What type of leather?

The simple method, for leathers that heal easily, is a pair of scissors or a razor blade across the base. The other way, for leathers that don't heal (and thus die when cut), is to take a chisel/screwdriver/etc. and a hammer and (carefully) break a chunk off around the base.

I think they are just toadstool leathers. Just plain old tan, but they're big and look really nice when they are open.

I have pealed smaller,4-6", toadstools off the rock and cut where it at attaches to another toadstool. They form a callus where they attach that won't reattach but it will attach higher up on the stalk where it's softer tissue. Just needs time and a method of anchoring till it attaches.

Thanks. I'll try that on one and see what happens.
