leather reproduction

Anyone had a toadstool leather divide. I have a quite large one, probably greater than a foot in diameter that has drawn up in the last few days and now has a big crease in it, and it looks like its almost trying to divide in two. Anyone had any experiences with this. I know some people frag leathers by just cutting them.
 
I have seen John Newby's huge toadstools drop some babies a few years ago. They started folding as if they were dividing at first, and then the tissue started drooping into polyp balls. I believe that this is called budding - relatively common type of asexual reproduction.

My leathers have budded before. I also saw a crease at first, but not right down the middle, IME. It could happen. Here are a couple of extrusion pics after the "crease" stage:
