Leather turned yellow.

I bought a leather about 3 weeks ago and it has started to turn yellow on the left side. The right side still looks fine but the leathers now lying on the sand bed. What should I do to help the leather?

The water quality is excellent with nitrates at 5

Get a better light, it's zooanthelae are likely dying.

Try repositioning it. Closer to the light maybe. Make sure its not real close to that plate coral or the frogspawn.

Sorry pressed submit without finishing. I noticed a hole in the left side the only thing that could go in it is the bristle worm but he never leaves his cave. The frogspawn and plate are to far away and the toadstool is proped up on a rock. The snails never bother it. The shrimp dance on it occasionaly but not reecently.

Huh?! Bristle worms in a cave? Bristle worms crawl wherever they want to at night, but if it is a bristleworm you're talking about, most are harmless towards corals. Frogspawn will sting another coral if placed to close, as they put out sweeper tentacles at night that can be as long as 6".

You need to get a decent light if you want to successfully maintain a reef tank/corals. Corals depend upon light to amke their food and will die eventually without it. Moonlights are for looking at stuff at night and will do little, if nothing to help your corals stay healthy and happy.

Another thought, what are your water parameters? How are you maintaining the water?

The water is changed every week. Yes he lives in a cave he just doesn't have a taste for sand.

How much water is changed? What type of water? What type of salt mix?

Not sure what type of a worm you're referring to, but doesn't sound like a bristle worm, as they crawl freely all around the tank. Maybe you're referring to a featherduster? Anyways, that's really besides the point.......

You need better lights, period. Your corals WILL fail if left under actinics and "moonlight" alone.

Leathers of all types need a good amount of light. Metal Halides or High-output fluorescents. My sarchophytons are under 4x24w T5s in a 18" tall 35gallon, right up at the top. I had kept them previously at the top of a 180g under a 250w double-ended metal halide. They NEED the light and good water flow. They will wither and die under any less, especially if it's only an actinic?!?! There's isn't enough photosynthetically available radiation to keep anything alive with that.

You didn't say what kind of leather you have, although honestly nothing will live under an actinic only. Either upgrade your lights NOW or give the corals to someone who can care for them responsibly.

That frogspawn needs a good amount of light as well, as does the plate. Please take the appropriate action asap.

And do I read in your signature that you have a Maxima under just actinics?!?!?!?! Man, that clam needs more light than most corals. Seriously, get better lights tomorrow or give/sell the corals asap. They won't survive very long, so you are seeing with your leather.

The fixture in the tank I was told were actnics I just read the recipt and it says daylight F8T5 I have no idea what that means.

If whoever told you the fixture was just actinics, I doubt you got more than that

All you have to do is flip the lights over when they're off to look at the bulbs to see how many watts they are

Do you have a nano tank? I believe F8 means 8 watts of T5 lighting.......... How many bulbs are in the fixture? if the light is mainly blue, you just have actinics.
