Leather Wars

I have 3 huge leathers in a 65 gallon tank and they've gotten along okay for quite a few months - 6 maybe since I added the last one. In the last week one has folded over and looks like it is rotting away. I've had quite a few leathers so I know they shed. This is not shedding. I'm thinking I need to take it out and frag it. Any other ideas?

Sorry to hear about your leather. If you see signs of necrosis it's probably best to frag it while you still can. I'd also run a double dose of fresh carbon to help protect your remaining livestock. What kind of leathers do you have?

I'm so sad about this leather and will try and frag when I get home. I have no idea about the ID. It has very long polyps and it lovely -- so sad... here's a photo. It's the leather on the left -- even in this picture the polyps aren't completely expanded.

Well, I chopped it off, rinsed all the dead stuff off the top and put that in the QT, put the rock with the stump back in the DT, changed carbon and GFO to 2 canisters of carbon, and cleaned the protein skimmer. This tank is part of a big system so lots of water volume. However, when I lifted the rock out of the tank a bunch of leather debris just dispersed in the tank and the other 2 leathers just completely withdrew. Fingers crossed.
