Well, the tank is almost dry and the LEDs are being built. After almost a year of planning building re-building and building some other custom fixtures the time has come to my fixture for the 300. Here are a few pictures of what I am building, the specs are as follows

72 premium royal blues
36 blue
48cool whites
36 neutral whites
12 green
24 violets

I am running 9 mean well ELN-60-48D drivers with the royal blues on one dimmer the blues on one dimmer the cool whites on one dimmer the neutral whites on one dimmer and the green and violets on one dimmer. Wow that's a bunch of color options LOL.

I will have 12 moon lights that will follow the lunar table driven off of my Apex controller and the LEDs will run off of the sun table. Hope you enjoy

Mark was telling me about your build when I stopped by to see his tank yesterday. It sounds like it's going to be amazing! Keep us updated with pictures!

Well I now have 1/4 of the build complete, I have 4 bars that will span the length of the tank with 2 drivers running 48 LEDs all LEDs have a PLED shunt installed in parallel to the LED, this way if one LED blows then the rest will stay lit and will also use the same current as each LED. I have tuned both drivers and the LEDs are shinning like WOW. Here are a couple of pics.

Whites on, I had to add 6 blues to each white section to balance the load

Junction temp after running full brightness for two hours

with those temps I have nothing to worry about, my plan is to run them at 10V DC for 8 hours and graph the temps during the run period. I am certain the junction temps will be below 140 degrees F, if that is the case then I will call this one a success.

Sweet build, glad some of my ideas inspired you. Can't wait to see it finished.

Nuke, thanks man. I am running ELN-60-48D drivers because I want to be able to run some fun Thunderstorm and Cloud cover programs via an APEX so I had no need for the big drivers and the G-11.

Mike :
I see you mounted the PLEDs on the star. that is my plan also. are you going to coat, or otherwise encapsulate, the stars for insulation safety and corrosion protection? any problems with extending the leads on the PLEDs?
I ordered the smooth surface, 1/2 height profile aluminum from 80-20 to hold down weight and cost. Have not ordered LEDs and drivers yet...let us know how you like your color mix when it's up and running. nice job, thanks for sharing.

Yes I will use the Luxdrive LED sealant from here

any problems with extending the leads on the PLEDs?
No just very small I will answer in more detail tonight after I can take some more pictures to show how I did it.

Color mix is awesome I placed it over my prop system last night was blown away at the colors I have not seen from the T-5's

nice job, thanks for sharing.

Thank, It has been fun thus far.

I'm curious to know how the mix of colors turns out. I did a similar lighting system on my 40g breeder, and its something I am still messing with. I added 4 red cree's to mine, and I would love to check out a few greens and some other colors.

When I finish it up you are more than welcome to come over and check it out, I will be able to control whites, blues and greens separately so you will be able to see the color highlights for each.

Mike can you post a link to which PLED you bought? I just ordered my LEDs and would like to incorporate these. Nice build by the way.

Matt

Its late and I have finished 3 of the 4 LED strips, I decided to go ahead and put them over the 300 and turn them on....... ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW......:D

Pictures will come later.

Link did not work but I'll search mouser for them. Finished building my first bar this morning. Can't wait to see your pics.

You know I'm waiting on yours to see how well (4) bars does across the width;). On the HeatsinkUSA heat sinks, i've got them spaced at 2.25" in all directions, so when I started planning out the 280, I started thinking I might need more bars for best coverage (which dramatically increased the build cost...). Are you planning on going with a lot of SPS when you get it all set back up?

Looks Great. I'm thinking of doing the same and love to see ideas like this. Looking forward to the pictures. Where in Al are you located?
