Hello all,
Ive been racking my brains regarding LED fixtures...I've decided to DIY..
I have a reef tank 95g 36x24 x25..
Now, one end of the tank has built in 8 x 12 overflox box, so that end is basically wasted. therefore the area that i will need to be concerned about is 28 x 24 x25...Almost a cube when you minus the overflow. .
Ive decided to go with 36 3w led setup.
18 royal blues and 18 cool whites..I'm doing 1:1 ratio because it will be a dimmable set up.
having researched and going back and forth continually between DIY and manufactured, I decided on DIY because of the 3w led build and dimming.
To purchase a manufactured dimmable quality setup would cost way more.
So here are my questions.................
Is 36 x 3w enough? Would 24 3w do?
Is 1:1 blue/white ratio good because I am dimming and I like 14 -16 lighting?
About the wiring....I plan on building a case with acrylic/plexiglass shield...are there any concerns that the soldered wires will be face down towards water surface? I will be using 60 degree optics and fixture will be hung about 10-12" from surface?
I plan on keeping mostly lps..but maybe sps...
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
