LED fixture

Ok just started following this thread and have been researching new lighting for my 22.5x22.5x24.5. I was hoping to get more light then necessary for most types of corals but realized I would need two units of the ones that are readily available AI Sol and Ocreef 60w Cree. I'm thinking of taking a crack at the 100x3w unit with the dimmable controller they are offering. I'm waiting for someone in their chat to become available for total quote. What do you'll think is this overkill or with the ability to program the lights i should be fine?

They sent me the pdf on the new controller for the 50x3w and 100x3w.. does the 0%-100% dimming, sunrise/sunset, timers. $60 USD

Hmmm... so the driver is dimmable right? So, if you have the VDM module on an Apex Lite (or a base Apex), you wouldnt even need the module right?

I really need to fine the dinero to get on with this order. For those considering the 100x3w unit. I was going to see if they would do a 58/Blue and 42/White version. Are any of you trying to get yours custom?

Snarkes I ended up emailing them as no one ever showed up on the chat but yes I would love to have mine customized towards a bluer hue. I plan on ordering this system as soon as possible before someone in the US gets and exclusive and the price doubles. I'm also going to order their controller and see how it works. Also does anyone understand on their page when it shows the the led optics angel it has 30, 60 and 90 does the fixture contain all 3 or are those options?

Well... they are in China and it is the weekend. I forget how far behind/ahead of us they are, but I believe its somewhere around 12 hours.

Def post your results! I'm with you about getting on board before someone licenses them and drives the price up. Though, I'm not sure how high it can go with all the new units coming out (Heck... AI just dropped the price of the Sol to $400... but it only has 24 LEDs).

Having seen these over a tank I bought some corals out of, I feel pretty good about em. But I had JUST replaced my Radiums. Pretty sure my better half would KILL me if I ordered these now. Maybe in a few months :P

I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed on the price though!:lmao:

Yeh I'll keep everyone posted here/ I'm ordering as soon as they email me the quote back. I figuring the whole package 100x3w fixture and controller plus shipping should be in the $450 range which is still a steal for the amount of light that unit will put out.

Just my .2 cents, would you guys not prefer to buy local. Just think that if anything goes wrong with the fixture you have to deal with a company all the way in China. I would rather spend the extra few bucks to not deal with the hassle of shipping the units back to china, waiting for weeks to get my unit back, etc.

Guys keep us posted i will have my $$$ by October I'm considering this fixture also, i have been in contact with Peter their Rep for awhile now.
I figure i would get 2 of the 100x3w for my 250gal DD, Do you think 2 would be enough with 60 optics?

But I havent seen a fixture with the power of this one local... That even approximates the power.

Not only is it hard to find a fixture with that kind of output but you would be looking at nearly double if not triple the cost to match what these fixtures would be providing. Eventually they will have a US distributor and all warranty issues will be sent to that distributor no matter where you purchased it. I know this from experience as my company has exclusive rights on a POS system that we now manage the purchases prior to our relationship starting with the manufacturer.

I know the factory very well and in constant talk with them on a daily basis, and I am sure this is not the present plan. The product is in the market over a year and there is NO EXCLUSIVE distributor in US nor Canada yet.

For those who have problem contacting them this week, please be patient, Chinese are having mid autumn festival holidays need to eat moon cakes, watch the "fairy couple love story" and the full moon.:lol2:

My dimmer/power supply stop working after 1 day and luckily I ordered from OCreef, I was able to contact starkled and get a replacement dimmer/power supply. Those thing gets hot!!!

Not sure if two would do it for you. I asked and was recommended to get 4 for my 180. I would think you'd need at least 3.

Well the 60w cree that eshinesystems sells has an exclusive agreement so why would the others not get one?

By "one", I assume you are talking about exclusive agreement. No businessman with right mind would want to get an exclusive while the factory is selling direct to end users so close to cost in the internet. End user will bad mouth the local rep as a blood sucker while forgetting, in USA, we are paying labor at $15/hour with competent ability to handle customer service. Just one return or service related issue will cost a company more $50 in labor not to mention, the shipping fee for shipping back the failed products. As for the dude who said getting 2 units with an air shipping fee of only $50. There are only two logical reasons for that to happen, either the factory decided to undercut ALL his resellers or the salesman made a mistake and good enough to honor his promise. Shipping this unit is over $50 DHL, not to mention UPS.

If "one", you mean physical units, I can tell you, there are more than one resellers in US of the product but they are too shy to come here and tell everybody they sell them when peers here ask them to sell at THEIR cost and maintain warranty in US.

Until the factory make clear of their own direct sale practice, the exclusive thing is not likely to happen. In general, a factory who make public of their cost, is BAD business practice. Look all the MAJOR guys in the industry, their factories NEVER direct sell at such low margin. For example, EcoLamp(the fatcory) is selling higher than their counter part in USA. Cree will never disclose their price to their OEM partners in public. They would only sell at SRP to help web presence or such but never try to run hot sale on their own direct sale website.

Okay, so you successfully did not answer the question.

They are manufacturing the 60w cree fixture and list pricing it at $185, vipinled is apparently list pricing the same fixture at $153. Eshinesystems locked in a contract with starkled to distribute in the US, OCreef is also selling the same light, probably from another chinese manufactuer.

Question is, why would they not do the same thing for any of the other 20 fixtures? I understand that people would not want to get in business with a manufacturer who is selling the product directly, which is why you get in a distributor contract in the first place. Their agreement makes it so the manufacturer cannot sell directly.... that is the whole point of the agreement, otherwise the us distributors would just purchase at free will and not be locked into a contract themselves..

That's what I am trying to tell you NO ONE(including OCreef) is having an exclusive on this product in US. May be, the salesperson you contacted is the salesperson selling to OCreef and practice good business to refer you back to OCreef on his personal business moral not the company policy. That is, MANY of the same items are coming to US from the factory or other resellers all the time other than thru OCreef.

Ahh okay sorry that makes more sense. Yea, eshine is selling directly to starkled, but there are multiple people selling the same thing.

I chatted with 2 dif people at eshine, both said they are selling to starkled and I read a few people on other forums saying that they started that relationship around 7/13.
