LED for Crocea Clam

Dear All,

I'll start by confessing that I don't know as much as I should about lighting, and read in this forum that actinic light is useless for clams etc. in terms of providing growth etc.

I have LED lighting. It is a Zetlight ZT660. I would tell you the relevant specs, but I don't understand enough to do that but from what I can gather from the website (http://www.zetlight.com/index.php/products?id=46) it is 200W and with quite good quality bulbs, and at about 12-16" below the surface the PAR rating is about 600-700 (in the middle area under the LED fixture). The clam is currently about 12" below the water surface, if you count from the top of its mantle.

I would really appreciate if some of you with the technical know-how would comment on the type of lighting that I have.

Many thanks in advance.

With the acceptation of the green and orange leds, the rest of the led's have mostly the same amount of other colors that my current led setup has, and I don't have any issues with my maxima and dersa, don't have a crocea but i'd imagine the lighting is about the same needed as a maxima.

That's encouraging. Thanks for your reply.

If the lighting is insufficient, will there be a slow observable decline? If so, what would the signs of decline be so I can take corrective action.

My guess is that it would slowly recede into it's shell and wouldn't open as much as the day before, there are other signs but i've not lost or had a sick clam yet (only have 2) so i wouldn't be the best at giving advice in that area. If it helps, i have 90 degree optics, fixture is 2 feet off my tank, clams are below the surface somewhere between 18 to 24 inches, maxima has been there for over a year now and doing fine, dersa has been good there for the last 4 months or so. max out blues at 75%, whites at 35%.

FYI - So far the clam seems to be doing very well. It has very firmly attached to the DIY cradle and is exoanding more and more each day.

Glad to see him working out for you, crocea is the next clam on my list, assuming i have room for him when the time comes, lol.
