LED fuge light

looks promising. The white one looks close to the JBJ nano glo light and works pretty decent. i might have to check these out too. dan

If you get one, let us know how it works out. I'm using one of the new spiral flourescents until I can get something better.

I used the flood light on mine and had 0 growth, everything in the refuge stayed looking healthy but no growth over 6 months. I switched back to a CF bulb and had lots of growth in just 2 weeks.

Not sure, but until the end of July you can get a heatsink, six 3W CREE LEDs, and a driver for them for about $76 shipped from Rapid LED. Perhaps add in another $12 if you want a fan to cool the heat sink and you have a 12VDC power supply (wall wart) to run it. I have the tools and miscellaneous parts and the knowledge to turn that into a decent light. I am not sure what lumens per watt those guys in your link get, but the CREE XP-G's are what the DIY guys are using and they get about 140 lumens driven at 300 mA -- more if they are overdriven up to 700 mA (which is what I would do).

Cheato has grow fabulously under my Maxspect LEDS, I have it in a soap dish in the DT, but of course it's a much brighter light, where as I never got growth under the 54w T5s. I was wondering about the "red spectrum" of the grow lights. Isn't that supposed to be the best for plant growth.
And if i did choose to try these, I wonder how many bulbs would I need to cover a 12 x 12 x 12" area?

Yes. Good plant bulbs are 5000k - 6700k, but can be mixed with 10000k if you don't like the 'yellow' look, but that probably doesn't matter just for growing chaeto.
