Hello everyone.
I have questions about led wattage and par. I currently have on my 37 gallon, 6 - 24 inch led strips from 21LED. (1 453nm actinic, 3- 2:1 12k:453nm, 1 12k, 1 8000k(this1 only on for 3 hours for a midday effect). I also have 2 24" ati bulbs for supplement, 1 blue plus and 1 purple plus.
The leds are .5 watts each, 42 per strip, so 252 total. I attached a pic with par numbers taken before I had added the 3rd 2:1 bar. Additionally, all strips are at 100%.
Can more quantity of lower wattage leds make up for their smaller size/intensity compared to fewer 1 or 3 watt?
I have good growth from my purple bonsai that is on the back glass about half the way up(minus slightly bleached base), decent growth from a pink hammer on the sand bed towards the left, great (but bleached) growth from a chalice about a quarter of the way up on the left but...
My mushrooms (sand bed), zoas (rock in middle sand bed), purple monti, and birdsnest (half way up) aren't dying, but not growing.
I run a aquamaxx skimmer 24/7 and an hob marineland with pura pad in it. I have been trying to feed more with red sea energy and a homemade oyster blend to try to spur growth and get better colors. I don't have any chemistry issues, both tests at home and the lfs give acceptable parameters:
Sal 1.025
temp 82
Nitrates 0
Alk 7.7
ph 8.2
Cal 460
Mag 1430
Phos undetectable
If the lighting is acceptable, should I feed more often? Whenever I feed heavy, it seems I have to scrape the glass twice a day. Sorry to be long winded, just trying to put all the info out there.
