LED intensity

so i did a rapid kit about 1.5 year ago. it was a 12/12 CW RB, 60 degree optics build with non dimmable drivers. I upgraded a few months ago to dimmable drivers, a new string with 2 TQ, 2 Red, 4 UV, on a 700ma constand driver, with 80 degree optics. light sits 14" from water surface. Never had great luck. about a month or two ago i dimmed everything WAY down. SPS color is coming back great, growth speeding up, glass algae slowing. The tank is 29 gallon, light now sits at 16" from surface, the whites dimmer is just turned up to where they turn on 10-15%; id assume. blues maybe 30-40%. and colored string on at 700ma. my question is, should i take off the optics? Its very obvious that i have been pounding WAY too much light in there for way too long.

What is your Alk at? There seems to be alot of correlation of high light needing lower alk for coloration.

I have 3 vegas, run them @ 100% with the corals all near the top of the water line. I keep my alk at 7-7.5 and the corals colors are vivid. Time will tell about growth though.
