LED light from ebay for reefs?

Well I received my fixture last night but have not had a chance to hang it above the tank. First impression is that the light is made fairly well. The fans are a little louder than I expected buy with the hum of pumps and moving water it will probably be negligable in my case. I was expecting to recieve a 20K fixture but it looks as if I received a 14k (1:1, blue to white). This may not be an issue, but I will have see once the fixture is up. If I don't like the color (K value), he has agreed to refund my $ including shipping. In corresondance he stated that he will be selling the true 20K (2:1, blue to white) in a couple of months. More to come later....

Well bad news for me anyway this light was to close the 10-15K spectrum for me so I will be returning it and wait until he gets the 20K version in stock. He has now changed the listing to read 14K (and increased the price by $20) for the despcription which is what Reefkoi list this combination of blue and white at. It looked almost identical to my 15K hamilton bulb as far as color rendition, but my coral colors did "Pop" a little more under the LED. Good luck everyone...

Other than your preference for a 20k type light, was everything else in good order from a quality/performance standpoint? Any hassles from the seller with sending them back?

Thanks,
Steve

Hey this is my first post...gotta start sometime i guess...

Rusty, no complaints. The build quality is solid and they are very bright, the fans have strong hum to them but did not bother me with all my other equipment runninig. I only ran this unit for like 15 minutes so take that into consideration. He is selling a lot of these and has a good rep (feedback) from people purchasing.

Paul (ebay seller) seems to be a stand up guy and is refunding my shipping costs as well because he had these listed as 20K's. They now say 14K on his auctions. Good luck!

update, so i have one defective light. half the blues went out, Paul has already shipped me out a new one and i'll send him back the bad one as soon i put the new one up. Great service, easy to deal with, personally i like the color, its tech a 14k verison but i wouldn't want it much blue, and if i did, i'll just buy some 50 watt all blue units, works as more light and more blue....being the are so new, i haven't noticed a growth difference yet, but everything looks a little more full and and expanded

ok, sorry lots of them!! or your welcome!

hey, mine are looking great - corals are growing, coral color is great, same as day 1, those do look the same, i would say they are- right now these led's are being sold everywhere, the manufacturers from china had a deal with a couple companies but when they came out with the newer model, they started selling to anyone- thats why your gona start seeing these leds get cheaper and cheaper- also the next big thing from china concerning led's are the new cree leds- 120 a pop, 16 x 3 watt programable and dimmable led's and you can run multiple systems together if you asked for a branching cable.

Unique LED lighting has great lights I have run two of them one of them for 3 years now with no problems. I I saw the rep at Dallas North Aquarium this weekend with a demo of their new high output prism (think that is the name) The rep said the light would not be out until June 1st I think, but it was amazing. It was less than 1 foot in length and casted a 5 foot tank from less than 1 foot above the water. They were running Cree XP-G for white and xp e for blue. I was amazed how bright it was it was much brighter than my light from last year. I think he said they have some starting at 375 and the high output version woudl be less than 600. Oh yea and I asked the rep if they would do a group buy discount and he said yes. If I get his contact info I will repost. I can also say they stand by their products and offer a 2 year warranty. The light you showed from ebay uses 1w leds.

I have a reply to your group buy in the form of a story lol.. I walked into a store the other day, I saw he had led's that looked identical to mine, I asked him how they were doing with sps and he said "great"... I told him i had one aswell and he raised his voice and hes like "IM THE ONLY ONE WHO CARRIES THIS, ITS MY BRAND, THE PLACE YOU GOT IT, GOT IT FROM ME" He did not know I do business overseas and I actually recited the company's address in china and he shut up thinking his secret was out.

Moral of the story, if one store carries out a new brand do your research.. cree led's that most online shops sell at 599 you can easily get for 175$ ship incld.

Oh and keep in mind that we might even be talking about the same cree fixture.
