I am relatively new (4 months) to the hobby and I am struggling with providing the corals with optimum lighting, yet without algae outbreak.
This is basically a 2x2x2 32G All-In-One tank, only LPS.
I am using Seachem Purigen, Matrix, MatrixCarbon and OceanDirect Oolite Live Sand (~1in sandbed).
AI Prime HD is the LED light. Lights start at 8am and end at 6pm, 5% blues until 8pm, then go just 1% Royal-Blue for the entire night.
Livestock: Yellow Tang, 2 Clowns, Blue Damsel, Purple Dottyback, Flame Hawkfish.
CUC: 7 hermit crabs, some (3-4) snails. 1 large Peppermint Shrimp.
Feeding: fed 2-times per day, a pinch of krill flake-food and Hikari Seaweed Extreme small pellets. They eat the food in about 1-2 minutes. Additionally, I give the Tang one small piece of Nori. He usually eats it all in 5-10 minutes.
Testing using Hanna Instruments.
Salinity: 1.025 (Red Sea salt)
kH: 8.1 - 8.5 (Using Seachem Reef Fusion 2-part Alkalinity/Ca solution)
Ca: 420-450 (Using Seachem Reef Fusion 2-part Alkalinity/Ca solution)
pH: 8.1 - 8.4
Temp: 78.5 - 80.5
NH3/NH4/Ammonia: ~ 0
Iodine: never tested, but I drop in 2-drops of Tropic Marin almost everyday.
I do 5 Gallon water changes every 7-10 days.
I have the Red Sea NoPox, but I am hesitant to use it.
Questions:
1.) Should I start with 1-mL of NoPox everyday and see what happens?
2.) In regards to lighting, should I just eliminate the "White" and just go with Blue, Royal-Blue, and Violet? Any suggestions about lighting would be appreciated.
3.) Should I add more CUC? I was thinking some snails, but not sure if my Hawkfish will just think they are a snack.
4.) I thought about eliminating the Nori as sometimes that floats in the water, but my Tang seems to really like it. I try to give him just enough that he eats it all.
