LED lighting question

Jeremy,

I am looking to replace my 2 48inch VHO's with LEDs. Would use the reefbrite 48" lights or the Ecoxotic LED stunner lights? If I did the stunner I was thinking of using a combo of UV and the 453nm strips. Your thoughts?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,

The Stunner's are just made to be moonlighting, rather than actinic supplementation, as they just don't have the intensity to them as what the ReefBrite modules have. I would lean towards the RB's, or look at the Ecoxotic Panorama modules. The RB's would be my first choice though for actinic supplementation.

Hi Scott,

I disagree. The blue stunners are far too bright to be used as moonlights. And for the record, the 403nm uv stunners are the closest approximation to actual 420nm actinic lighting. The uv stunners make the greens pop at night and stimulate the zooxanthellae within your corals

On any take besides a nano, the Stunner's really aren't going to do much from my experiences. For example, on a 75gal tank, if you were running a stripe of 4 stunner's in the front, and 4 stunner's in the back of the tank, once the main lighting would come on you wouldn't even be able to tell the Stunner's were running at that point. Now, if you have a good amount of stunner's on a smaller tank, and not as much intensity of your main lighting, the stunner's will not be washed out as easily.
