Hi, i know Solaris is no more, but are there any other high output led lighting manufacturers out there?

If so where can i buy? "AND YES I KNOW HOW EXPENSIVE THEY ARE"

THANKS!!!!!!

I found a bit on aquaillumination after i posted here, my big question on any/all of these is will it work for my tank?

72 x 30 x 27 may actually be 60 long "undecided"
Mixed reef

I dont mind the cost upfront as long as i can save some money in the long run, and since i live close to miami FL im worried about heat so im looking for options in lighting

What exactly are you looking to keep, SPS, LPS, softies?

Personally, I am leery of the cost savings LEDs represent. Given the high initial expense, it would take several years to see the return. Because the technology is in its relative infancy, I think further advancements are coming soon. Which means a lot of LED buyers will end up replacing units sooner than later, negating the cost saving.

Have you considered solar tubes? Depending on the tank's location and your willingness to drill holes in your roof or walls, it's definitely the cheapest option for someone in the sunbelt.

TyroRuan, you need to find yourself to:

http://reefcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=235

The Florida Marine Aquarium Society forum here on RC. We've got a few people who have experience with LEDs (There is a thread on it in there) who had the PFO ones. Most of them have gone to T5 or MH. If you're looking for tanks for sale, there are a LOT of them for sale locally (it says in your signature you're looking). If you ever want to see a tank in Boca or talk tank or what not, I'm home for the summer till August, and would be more than happy to help out in any way that I can.

For the original topic, I wouldn't recommend LEDs at this time considering all of the heartbreak and wasted $$$ I've seen people suffer because of the infancy of the technology, as serpentman said. I also agree that Solatubes would be AWESOME if you can manage to get them (either having the room, or the ability to cut through the roof). Otherwise T5s are an option, and there are MANY dealers down here with good competitive pricing schemes on stuff.

Again, if you ever want to talk in person or check out some tanks, feel free to contact me, and also on the FMAS forum there are a lot of great people with LOTS of experience dealing with the issues specific to having tanks in our climate/region.

I've got solatubes on my 300, VHO's on my 150, MH on my frag tank and LED's on an experimental tank. If you want to come see the difference for yourself, I'm over by Fort Myers.

I set up the experimental tank to decide LED or solatubes for the main tank. Went with solatubes. On an 8 feet tank, they were expensive, but not quite as high as LED's would have been.

serpentman, i wan a true mixed reef, so a bit of everything

jdhuyvetter, i would love to come by some time, just that 2.5-3 hour drive is a bit of a downer :(, "Why couldent you be next door huh?" lol

ReefWreak, thanks for the offer!, im closing on my new house very soon and as soon as i do ill get my tank. There are so many deals out there, i just have to make sure on which house in getting "Have a few offers on houses, close to closing on 2" Then i can decide on the exact tank

I bought some from a guy who was one of the first to post a dyi led system and who then started a little company. They are just on-off led banks with no computer controller but they work great and are a lot less expensive. smgsllc.com
