Led lighting

Just curious if there is a difference between buying a led light labeled for aquarium that can be costly or going to your local menards and buying a regular led light for your tank. After going through my 3rd aquarium led light I decided to just pick up a couple led lights from menards much cheaper. They work great but I've noticed I don't have the algie issues in he tank anymore. So I'm wondering if I've finally found the right balance in the tank or if led lights make a difference and could I be causing more harm wo the algie growth as before.

If there is nothing in your tank that 'needs' the lighting, and you like the 'colors' it is giving you, I see no harm.

What type of LEDs, for my knowledge?

I've run a sump with prolific cheatomorpha moss on an 8 dollar shoplight body and a 6500k CFL floodlight. Probably you can do it, but the minute corals or fragiles are involved, not so likely. There are also lights meant for freshwater and those for marine, tanks. Fish in general don't care much about light. But for photosynthesizing creatures like corals, clams, plants, the right wavelength of light is essential.
