LED Lights?

Is anybody using LEDs on their tanks? I am just curious because I saw these at the LFS (and they are EXPENSIVE)- I was wondering if any of you do-it-yourselfers had tried this yet.

I just got done making my own blue L E D moon lights about 2 weeks ago and it ended up costing much less than I could buy them for. If anybody wanted info and costs just let me know.

WE bought PFO Solaris LEDs at IMAC. H series, 4' length. We put them on the tank on the 28th of last month. I previously had compact fluor., so, acclimation is a slow process, so not to bleach anything. We started at 50% power, and have increased in 10% increments. Now up to 73% on the day whites, and 38% 0n the day blues. Corals that had been receding are coming back. it will be a few weeks yet til at full power.

I just got some and I like them. Especially if you have a problem with the heat from metal halides, they are nice. They do not add any heat to the room my tank is in.

Both corals and clams seem to be doing well with them.

They are expessive but prices are coming down.

Are you saying prices on the LED fixtures are coming down, or LEDs in general? I've seen one price on the fixture that I'd need...would really like to see other competitors enter the market but none so far unless you know of one..

I don't think you'll see the prices coming down on LEDs for aquariums. I've even seen some Solaris dist. selling at more than list. Premium aquatics is fair priced.
