Hi RC. Do corals benefit from the white channel or just the blue. I do not like running the white channel. I usually have blue 33% and white 4%. Is this ok? I have a black box/reef breeders photon.

Thanks.

You need both. Use the blue as a dawn and dusk cycle, have both the blue and white for a good 6-8 hours during mid day as your day cycle. The blue will help your corals flouresce and keep your tank looking ethereal, also they will use much of blue spectrum for photosythesis. The white is needed to achieve intensity and PAR. The corals will use alot of the reds (white made up of all colors). Some zooxanthelae will use greens and other parts of the spectrum. The white will provide a wide spectrum of light that different corals will use. Put light cycle on timers or programmer, create a schedule from dawn, to peak mid-day sun, back to dusk. Turn up the white to intense for atleast 6 hours a day, your hard corals or anemones will like this. Your softies dont need nearly as much, so just depends on what you are housing.
