Hey all

Ive been MIA for a while as I have a lot going on. Anyways I am running a ATI 6 bulb Sunpower (i think) and want to upgrade to LED's I have a good mix of LPS and SPS. The tank is a standard 4 foot 24 inch deep 90 gallon tank. Suggestion appreciated. Looking to spend no more than $1100-1200

Happy Holidays to all!

Dave

Dave,
Radion XR30W Pro G3.........(still a little pricey but nothing but good reports on them).
I would recommend 2 for your tank with 120 degree lenses.

You might want to check out the Reefbreeder LED fixtures. I got two to replace my T5's a couple of months ago and are happy with them. For my 180 gallon i bought 2 $450 fixtures. SPS and LPS Corals are doing well and seem to be growing as much as they did with my T5's, and Im using so much less electricity its ridiculous. They're programmable and backed by 2 year warranty. Wish I'd switched to LEDs a long time ago.

Benefits
1. I dont worry about my house burning down from ballasts burning out
2. Saving a ton in electricity
3. No longer need fans in my canopy
4. Intensity is controllable unlike my T5s which in retrospect I think were too powerful for my tank
5. I dont burn my arms/hands doing work in my tank any more from the hot bulbs
6. Dont have to buy new bulbs or keep thinking im overdue in changing bulbs

So I'm a happy camper!

The reefbreeders are a nice option and more affordable...however if you are willing to spend the extra $$$'s then the radions are rated much better and have infinite control....regarding custom color spectrums and programable intensity for each color group etc. It all depends on what you prefer and your price point. I have an ocean revive T247 over my frag tank which has a built in timer and digital intensity setting (NOT programmable intensity...just set and forget). You would need 2 and it would cost you $300 shipped for both. BUT.....if you don't want as much red....you'd have to lower the intensity on ALL of channel 2 which includes the whites, green, violet etc. Get the picture !!!! You get what you pay for....if you can live with lesser options then all of the above are good LED fixtures however I don't think reefbreeders OR Ocean Revive can compare with the results that the Radions are getting.....I myself don't have the Radions because I invested 3 to 4 years ago in another company's LED fixtures (which are now out of business) but they work, (although I had to supplement them w/T5's to broaden the spectrum), and I'd loose my shirt (and marriage) if I were to sell them and purchase new lights LOL.

I only have mine for less than 2 weeks but I like the spread of light, LED color selection/spectrum and the price (on sale right now for $148 each shipped). I also like the construction and built in timer. I don't like the lack of control on the color groups but for a frag tank it's not that crucial. I would have preferred 120 degree lenses/optics but they come with 90 and there is no option to change. My opinion regarding coral growth etc is that in my case it's too early to tell, (I don't have enough experience with them), but I've heard good things from "other" experienced reefers. When I have actual experience regarding what they can do ....I'd feel more confident in offering my endorsement but for the price point and construction they are certainly an option and seem to be worth the money, (that's why I purchased one).

I went with Reef Radiance lights when I did my 180. They have a few different models to choose from that give you a lot of control. They cost a lot less then the radions, but if money is no object, well then

By the way the Par for the ocean revive T247 on my tank which is 4'x2'x30"deep is Lights

I don't think ANYONE is building a better fixture than
Build My LED in Austin, TX
I own the first generation style. I have not seen any light fixture that's built as ruggedly and elegantly (from an engineering standpoint). No fans, nothing on the fixture itself to break.
Designed and built in the US, three year warrantly...
The new generation has the capability to control separate color bands using their controller.
I can speak to their durability and I find the fixture attractive to boot!

someone on craigslist is selling a custom led from rapidled.com. The person is located out in Shirley. not sure if its any good. im not too familiar with whats good and whats not. but might be worth a look Thavngr.

I went with the radion XR15's. While not as powerful it let me get a little better spread across the length of the tank (24x24 coverage ideal for 24 depth). With 2 of them I cover the 48" length of the tank nicely. The biggest drawback is I do run them at 100%.

I have been getting great growth and color on my monti cap and my clams all show growth on the bottom as well.

Hey man. Check out the Chinese d120 style fixtures. You'll only need 2 and you'll be good for about $200. Look up Chinese Blackbox LED Proof Group on facebook.

The Evergrow D120's have been around awhile and are full spectrum ...but again manual intensity setting and only 2 channels ...so you will have multiple color groups on one channel and all blue on another. Also, no channel for moon lights. The Evergrow IT2040 or Ocean Revive IT2040 (same units) have 3 channels...the same groupings as above plus the moonlight channel, (and you can program intensity of the channels).

Dave:
regarding the Radions...the $600 to $700 each unit does NOT include the LEDs?
