led sps tank

so i got 2 led units last week, eah unit had 20 3 watt cree leds in it. im going to put them over my 90 gallon take and i wanted to add 2 t5ho to each side of the units. i just wanted to know if you guys thought that will be enought light.

they are 60 deg optics...i did a lux reading at the sand bed it was doing about 950 lux and that only the led not the t5 havn't gotten them put on yet.

I'm not sure what lux translates to in Par.....i think they are totally different. I would think that if they are 3 watt leds running at 700ma and 60 degree optics you should be good to go pretty much all the way to the sand bed.

I run 120 3w cree leds with 80*optics over my 210 and am having really good growth for a tank that has been setup for less than 2 months. I have 60no white and 60 rb leds with no other lighting. I think you would be just fine. If not maybe add one more fixture to your setup.

I'm running 3 AI units, 2 feet above water, 100% with Ramps.
They're also supplemented by some T5's because LED's just don't fill in the gaps all the way.
I have yet to see any light fill in as the conventional MH, expensive yes, great indeed.

You should have plenty of lighting, unless you feel that you need more to tickle your fancy.
For me, LED's alone wasn't enough!

How much par would the 40 deg. Optics add? I ran a ecoray vs my led at about 24" from the sand bed and I got 1109 lux off the ecoray but on the out rim it only did about 156 lux and my led did 950 and 35f lux on the ouutersid. Outerside means corrner of tank but still on the sand bed.

I have very even light spread because I built my leds on long rails. I will say take some lux reading when I get home. My meter isn't waterproof so I can hold it the bottom of the tank and I point it up and see what it reads.

Tried to get some readings bit my meter doesn't read very accurately through the tank pointing up towards the light. I sis get 450 lux at the bottom of the tank with the meter held against the stand pointing up towards the light. If I get my meter under the lights at 8" I get and overlimit meaning the value is over 40000 .

The 40º lens adds quite a bit of par compared to the 70º.
When I switched out the 40's for 70's I noticed the bottom of my tank looking much darker.
I don't have a part meter, but my visuals are more than enough of a reading to determine that. Even though it's not super accurate but it's better than none!

Depending on the depth of your tank and how wide it is, you'd want to calculate the proper proportions to apply the LED's to your tank. With the 70's and a tank less than 2 feet deep, you'd see a lot of wasted late spill over your tank and into your living room or eyes.

i dont think im going to change them and im not sure if im going to add t5 anymore all my corals are getting a lot more color then when they were under t5.
