LEDs and heat

I have a diy led setup.
I am using aluminum heat sinks measuring 7" x 16".
I'm installing 36 three watt led stars and using thermal paste.
My question is whether I need to use the fans I had previously, or if I can leave them off to get a more streamlined look without overheating the LEDs.
The LEDs are spaced 2" apart on centre.
Meanwell dimmable drivers.
Please keep it simple for me, I'm not an electrical savvy guy, just barely able to stumble through this build. Lol.

Adding a fan is always recommended. I will put one even if the leds hardly make the heatsink warm.

My general test if you lack a temp probe: can you grab the heat sink with your hand (not just lightly touch with your finger) and hold it comfortably? If not, add a fan. Make sure to do it in a similar situation to your final mounting, I.e. In an enclosed hood or free air.

This test has an error margin (if you're a chef or deal with hot things all day) but usually works out.

As above - fans are a good thing to add even of you don't actually need them, but if the heat sinks feel very warm or hot, add them!

Looking at those pics, I'd guess those heat sinks are going to get pretty warm/hot if you don't add fans - they look fairly thin with short fins!
