Hey guys,
I have 3 108 watt led fixtures on my 220... Half blue half white LEDs..
30 inches high, lights are about 6-8 inches hung over the water... Is that too much light for zoos? I'm new to led, and just started up my tank as a reef again...

I tried some zoos a few days ago. Green polyps... They seem to be half open....Not fully blooming.... To much light?

Thx!
Steve

So I got home today... Most of the polys were closed... When I turned off the White LED's and just had the Blue's on, the Zoo's started opening a tad... There about half way open... NOt full bloom though... Any advice??

The polyps seem to be opening half way with the Blue LED lights... Once the whites come on they close...

What kind of lights were the zoas kept under before? They could possibly still be acclimating to the increase light. If it still doesnt open for a few more days, try moving it lower in the tank and then start moving it closer up so that it can adjust.

I just got brand new LEDs for my tank also, and they were all closed up too. I had to use chicken wire to defuse some of the lights as they adjust to them

Brand New...

Well then you need to acclimate the corals to the new light, otherwise they're used to whatever was on there previously and will stress out, bleach, and possibly melt. Raise the light higher, cut your photoperiod, put some screening or something over the tank and take it slow.

Yea, Zoas dont handle too much light, may bleach. I would try dimming or reducing the time the white come on. Then... slowing increasing amount of time whites come over several days. Also put low in the tank

takes corals awhile to adapt to leds if rasing the fixture isnt possible try overlapping some eggcrate stagering the wholes to where the top line is in the middle of the bottoms so its blocking half the light then slowly move the top layer of crate over a period of 1 to 2 weeks

I had the same thing happen, I think the best post was to stick with the blues alot of the time and slowly increase the whites over a few weeks or so.
