Which would be the best option for a 6ftlx2.5ftwx2.5ft H tank:
DIY LED or AI?
If AI, how many modules do I need?

I have a hard time believing 3 radions could light that tank. That would be 5 sq feet per unit. This image directly from their website shows how little par they have even 15" away from the light source:

I think 6 AI sols would work though, but I don't like the lack of red and violet in their spectrum.
If you're going to use LEDs I would recommend you make a DIY setup. A combo of royal blue, blue and cool white with supplemented with natural white, violet, and red (maybe a couple of greens for fun) would work great. The blues and whites would need narrow lenses (40 or 60 degrees) on a tank that deep, the supplements with 80 degrees. Regardless, if you're thinking of going the LED route, be prepared to drop approximately $3000 lighting that tank.

I would just go with halides for simplicity.

What would be the combo ratio of RB to B to CW be? How many NW? and how many violet, red, and greens would you add to the mix? Thank---Rick

That comes down to personal preference. I would overbuild the unit and put each color on their own channels allowing you to dial in the wattage for the color you want.

Roughly, I'd say 5:2:1:1 (RB:CW:NW:B). You would probably want about 20 total violets for a tank that size, maybe 8 reds and 8 greens.

Don't want to hijack Inthesea's thread in anyway, but thanks for your answer. I agree with putting the RB:CW:NW:B's on their own drivers with dimming to dial in their colors to your eyes liking.
