LEDs Safe in Canopy?

I've been watching a few threads on lighting and I've seen a lot of people saying that some of the big LED fixtures (EcoTech Radion, AI FiftyTwo, Kessil AP700, etc.) were not safe to use in canopies. Is this because they wouldn't been far enough away from the surface or is this for ventilation reasons?

I have never heard of Leeds not working in canopy. Maybe depends how var your want to mount them.

I have mine in a floating canopy.

They need to be well ventilated to keep them cool. Mount 80mm or 120 mm ultra quiet fans and provide some openings for the hot air to escape and you should be fine.

I've had big (32", 100 leds) fixtures in a canopy for 6 years and never had any issues. Almost any light in a canopy would benefit from good ventilation, especially MH. But even t5 need air.

i've been using ai hydra 52 n black box n just recentlly got the maxspect 48inch hanging inside my 110g. The only reason i can think of is if they mount it right against the canopy n allow no air flow area n that can cause the fixture to have ventalation issues. Which can cause any light fixture to fail faster without proper cooling.

Scuzy can you post some detailed pics of your stand and canopy please or tell me if you have a build thread. Thanks
