hey,

so i was at a store last night and someone was talking about how the 1 watt and the 3 watt leds are the same, but you use a bigger driver on the 3 watt and in turn shorts the life span. is this true?

Leds really shouldnt be referred to in terms of wattage. They run at X volts at Y current. For example the cree XP-G leds run at a max of 1.5 amps at about 3.5 volts = 5.25 watts; however, they only run at about 3 volts at .35 amps = 1.05 watts.

do there is a diff between them? and it doesnt effect the life time?

Each model of led is different and has it's own optimal current for a longer useful life (although operating temperature probably plays a larger role in useful lives)

Read the data sheet for the led to determine it's optimal performance and useful life
