Lemon Peel Angel...any luck???

The lemon peel angel is my favorite of the dwarf angelfish. I realize that they are more prone to be coral-nippy then say coral beauties, flames, etc. Has anyone had any luck with keeping a lemon peel that did not start nipping corals? Would a lemon peel hybrid be safer? I'll be getting a dwarf angel regardless so I am willing to take the risk, but if no one has ever had ANY luck with this angel then I'll have to go with another. I also understand that lemon peels eat alot of algae. If I keep alot of macros, will that help deter them from chowing on corals?
 
Mine is algae eating machine. Its fine with leathers, Xenia, colts, and mushrooms. I added a birdsnest a couple days ago and he went to town. Seems to be chilling out so we'll see what happens. If he doesn't stop he'll have to go.

When I bought mine it was in a reef and none of the corals were picked at he was in there for about a month but I have not kept him in a reef.
 
I've read many times on here that LP are one of the most non-reefsafe dwarf angels.

I dont have a reef, so I cant say that is my experience.

I have a few lemonpeels in QT right now. Very nice looking fish.
 
I have one, He leaves lps and softies alone but I can't get any sps corals since he will go to town on them.
He is fine with other inverts like shrimp.
This angel is extremely beautiful, mine has THICK rings on his eyes, gills, lips and edges of his fins. Sadly I might have to get rid of him since he has been bullying my trigger and I would like to keep some sps corals.
Hope this helped, oh ya for best health and colour I feed mine nori ( he doesn't like it but i sneak it in with his squid, krill, mysis and whatnot.

What kind of trigger do you have (how large?) He must be the most passive trigger fish in history:fish1: to be bullied by a dwarf angel?

He is a blue throat, he is as peacful as my false perc clowns.

It's funny because the angel is smaller then him.
 
Ahhh, pooh. No one has had any luck with these? I figured that it would likely be a no-go with the lemon peel especially considering that this tank will be a mixed reef of SPS/LPS/softies and possibly a clam. My second fave dwarf angel is the black nox and it is also very prone to eat corals. All my fave dwarf angels are very coral-nippy. Go figure. I guess I'll go with the flameback. They seem to be the least prone to nip corals and they are one of my more faves of the dwarfs. I just really love the lemon peels *pout*

Or else, I will just have to forgo SPS corals. I like SPS corals but LPS are by far my fave. I like the movement you get with them. Decisions, decisions.

I love my Flameback, but he is a little thug! Very aggressive little guy! Of course my tank is the rougher part of the Reef. LOL

I keep a C. bicolor myself also. but I do not trust him AT all with LPS or Zoas.

I'm in the same boat. I love angels, but it seems every time I see one I like, it turns out to be non-reef safe. So do I risk it or pass on the fish I think are most beautiful? Guess it comes out to a balance somewhere.

Well, I am not a 100% sold on getting SPS anyway. As I mentioned earlier, I am a much bigger fan of LPS and even some softies. I like alot of movement in my tanks. I love corals that sway with the current. So I might just forgo the SPS in that tank and get a lemon peel angel. I have a smaller tank that I could put some SPS in if I want to. I wonder if the lemon peels chow on all SPS or do they seem to prefer certain SPS types over others? If there is some type of SPS that they are less prone to snack on (ex. montipora) then I might try some of them.

I agree. The movement of LPS and softies is more attractive to me than SPS. If you go through with the lemon peel, report back. I'd love to hear how it went.
 
I have a hybrid lemon peel, and a flame back, both love SPS polyps, in fact, they both are small and live within this acro colony I have and nip away all day.

I dont mind it, less PE on acros, but the fish is too cool to get rid of.

if you add an angel to a reef, add it knowing it will nipp, that way if it doesnt u will be happy lol
 
I had a flavissima x vroliki hybrid that nipped at my SPS coral. It never really harmed the corals, just less PE.
 
Which is normal foraging behavior for Centropyge sp. Angels. But be aware any sign of sickness or stress, may cause pecking to turn into outright eating. And for what its worth, Centropyge are HARDEST on LPS corals, the meaty ones anyway.

I realize that any dwarf angel will be hit or miss in terms of coral-nipping. I might give it a shot anyway. If not with the lemon peel, then with one of the other dwarfs. I was just wanting to get a general feel for this particular dwarf angel. Some people here have said they have had more luck with them with LPS and softies and less luck with SPS.
