Leonardo's Formosa Forest 2

Joost, I don't dose any VSV anymore. After some time I developed a problem with dinoflagellates and the only cause I could find was the addition of a carbon source. After I stopped the VSV the problems disappeared.
Besides that the colors of the corals have become much more colorful and I'm able to increase the KH a bit (9-10) which contribute to a more stable pH and better growth. KH levels that high when dosing a carbon source can cause problems.

Lugols (PotassiumIodine) is automatically dosed because it is a part of the Balling trace elements :)

Oh, I see. Interesting that you achieve better colors without the addition of a carbon source. Did you see a decrease in sponge growth after stopping with VSV?
I read the "Guide to Balling" on your website, What are the benefits of adding:
Strontium / Barium Komplex (19 ml using Fauna Marin)
Heavy Metal complex (19 ml using Fauna Marin)
Iodine Fluoride Complex (19 ml using Fauna Marin)?
thnx

Ahh Sweet!! Im subbed for sure, great idea on the webpage/blog Leonardo. What type of stand/canopy are you looking to build? Modern look?

Thanks for the reactions! :)

My colors were lighter and less deep when I dosed VSV. Maybe when you have a problem with high nutrients VSV will improve colors, but in my case, with already unmeasurable nitrates and phosphates, colors went downhill slowly.
The idea behind the Balling trace elements is that you dose the elements in relation to your calcium-KH uptake. That way you never dose too much. Color and overall heath of the corals seems to be improved with this mixture of elements.
I didn't notice a decrease in sponge growth after stopping with VSV. Of course an increase or decrease in growth is hard to measure in this relatively slow growing organisms. Either way they are still in good heath.

The canopy and stand will be high gloss-white and square. Simple, clean lines that don't distract from the tank itself :)

Thanks Addo! Although I think the modules can look great, it is not what I'm looking for.
I really like minimalistic, high gloss stands, so I will definitely go that route ;)
