I have 2 valentinis and a blue spotted. The valentinis seen less aggressive and nippy. Although I did catch one valentini biting a brain coral and the clowns in with them have had a nipped fin a couple times. But I think the fin biter is my blue spotted. They will try and eat shrimp. I haven't seen them bug snails or hermit crabs.
Ahh, so a cleaner shrimp might be a victim? I like to keep a couple shrimp around as entertainment as well as for their CUC membership. Is it a feeding thing? If I feed the puffer regularly will he be alright with a shrimp around?
I have my small valentini in with some sexy shrimp and peppermint shrimp. But you rarely see them as they hide in the rock work most of the time.
My big valentini and blue spotted would chase any ghost shrimp that would get away from my fu manchu in my other tank.
IME if a puffer has a chance at getting a shrimp, it'll take it. But with good hiding places the shrimp can survive, although you might not see them much.
They are really cool fish with a lot of personality. I wasn't planning on having one in my tank with the shrimp. I had ordered a pair online and got 2 males. So I had to split them up.
I have a possum wrasse & really like him. Took about a week to settle in. Cruises in & out of the rock work & around the corals at the bottom of the tank. No one bothers it. Don't see it eat so it must be hunting in the live rock for pods & other goodies.
