Leopard wrasse and cupramine

So I got some new fish.

A diamond goby, a leopard wrasse, a blue tang and a powder blue tang.

They are all in a barebottom QT and doing quite well eating like pigs, but today I noticed the powder blue tang scratching.

So I need to start treating the QT with cupramine. The problem is that I dont know how well will the wrasse take the medication.

Any help on that?

Thanks

According to this blog, they do tolerate copper. However, copper is a poison to all fish and there is a very small therapeutic window that this treatment will be effective and not kill the fish. You will need a very accurate test kit. The Hanna checker for Copper is a good test kit versus API which the color is hard to tell the exact level. Angels do not tolerate copper so never use this on any type of dwarf angels or other angels. http://www.mrsaltwatertank.com/write-up-wednesday-four-years-with-several-leopard-wrasses/ You may also want to consider other options before copper as copper is not always the best first choice since it can be very easily overdosed. Here are some other options on this site http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Ich.html

I would not trust cooper with that wrasse. Also, IME I had some tangs that had bad reactions to cooper. I would try and setup the TTM.

I realise this is an old thread but just wondering how you got on?

I currently have 3 fish in QT and one of them is scratching. Treated with prazipro just in case of flukes but on day 2 and no improvement yet. One of the fish is a peacock wrasse and I am scared to copper them because of that. Years ago I nearly lost my sixline during cupramine treatment but he did somehow survive.

Well it did good while it was in QT with cupramine. I had no problem with it. It's not the first wrasse it treat with it.

Good luck with yours
