Leopard wrasse

So I bought this leopard wrasse maybe 1-2 months ago. It ate at the LFS and seems to be doing fine in my tank.

My problem is, it only comes out in the morning hours and I have my lights come on at 6pm. I've watched it pick at my rocks during the morning hours when I'm at home. It looks nice and fat, prob from all the pods it eats.

How can I get it to come out during my photo period 6pm-1am? I watched it all day today and found out where it sleeps. I caught it and put it in a container for now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

They can take quite a while to settle in and feel secure. Apparently they suffer from jet lag just like use and it can take a month or so for them to catch up to their new daily schedule. Assuming this it will also need a settling in period with its new tank mates so its not surprising its still a little off. Hopefully given time it will always be out and about, but they are supposed to be a species that goes to bed early.

can i ask why

I caught her so I could put her in the sump where its dark. The room my tank is in gets sunlight and it use to come out morning hours. 6am-4pm. My lights come on 6pm-1am. Before I tried to black out my tank with blankets but it wouldn't come out when lights came in. So it basically slept for 24hrs.

It sat in my sump all day in the dark. Now its 6:45, I put her in the DT at 6pm. Shes been actively swimming around the tank for a good 45mins now. Before I would never even see her around 5pm. I think I just changed her internal clock overnight :celeb1::lol2::celeb1:

Hopefully it does not get overly stressed. They can be fairly sensitive fish. It would have worked it's schedule out eventually. Mine will disappear for days at a time and then will be out and about all the time.

That's what I was hoping for but she's been in my tank for about two months now. I watch her swim around the tank when I wake up in the morning to about 4pm in the evening. She's in the sand on the dot, plus the sunlight coming in everyday lead me to take action.

I hope she wasn't too stressed out also. If luck is on my side, I will happily update in a month that she is still out and about when my lights come on.

putting it in a container, is what had me puzzled. but hopefully everything works out and it didn't get to stressed out.

Do not "catch" leopard wrasses and put them in containers which do not contain sand. This can cause them physical damage which will result in their demise.
