Lesson Learned

OK, This post is for anybody that has acquired Frags or anything out of my tank within the last several months. Due to carelessly adding specimens from
unknown sources I have discovered a case of Flatworms. Not really sure If they are the AEFW kind but I took no chances and treated my tank yesterday.
I would advise all to check their tanks carefully as these were very tiny, That's why they went unnoticed for as long as they did.
Anyway I am Sorry for Infecting any of you Guy's and have notified almost all of the people I had Ph #'s for, But If I missed you please check your tank.
FYI, This was Limited to my frag tank due to using Filter socks. Seems to have not let them pass down into my sump.
New Rule, Dip No matter who the source or what the Species may be. If you can not Dip it Quarantine It (No Exceptions)
I read an Article stating that the Supply Chain for Live Fish and Coral Is in
very bad shape regarding Disease, Especially ICH, Flukes, Red Bugs, Flatworms etc. So we have to defend ourselves.
On a side note, Fishdoc you were absolutely right, You just never know what your getting.
Sorry to all that I affected.

Bill, I hate to hear this about your tank or anyone else's tanks. how easy are they to treat? What sort of Dip do you recommend to use when aquiring specimens.

They were all dead within three hours using Flatworm Exit by Salifert. To Dip Incoming coral It would depend on what It Is, But Luglos Iodine can be used along with other name brands like are sold at the LFS or online.
In my case It was hard to Dip a Large Anemone that a friend wanted to leave in my care for a while.

Unfortunately I got em. Been seeing some die off on a few acros. Hopefully I can pick up the med today from the critter and the treatment works well.

Big Kudos to the Critter/Chris. Went to buy the medicine at lunch and before Bill and I could even think about it, Chris suggested just putting a few drops of the med in a small vial from what Bill was purchasing. I needed only a small amount and this saved me $25! Chris even gave me a vial to hold it in. Thx to Bill for agreeing to this as well.

Long Term

sorry to hear it Bill, stand up job by letting everyone know!

I have and still plan on being in this hobby for a long time, If I ever want to sell a Frag again Honesty will go a long way in gaining peoples trust. Thanks for what I consider a big Complement.

So you think they came in on an anemonee?? wow. thats interesting.

how do you mix your lugols to make the dip?

Not exactly on the Critter but In the Water, And you can put around 5 drops of Luglos in a gallon of water and leave the frag in the mix for up to 15min. But I just watch and shake, When I see all live things bail and no more stuff coming off I think I'm good to go. JMO After carefully looking the frag over for any thing moving or dead. Ha.

thanks Bill. I cannot wait to get those frags from you when the time is right here. that is teh approach I took with the ICH in my tank. FWIW, my sohal is showing zero white spots and the Mrs said he itched only a time or two today.

Bill -

If the flatworm exit killed them, are you sure they were AEFW? From what I remember, FE won't kill those buggers (so thats a good thing!)

Good deal, I've been too lax about everything lately but that has changed!

Not sure at all, But I was not taking any chances with mine or anybody's else's coral when I spotted them. They were def Flatworms But AEFW ???
Better safe than sorry, Plus I had some strange dead spots (Eaten Maybe)
Nice to hear from you Chuck, How's your Tank doing?
Bill

yea bill. same here. I am now looking for a 20 long or a 29 that I can put under the stand for use as a QT. ill get me a little HOB that I can drop the filter pad in the sump before getting new fish and if they get sick, I can toss it cheap and get another from Wally world.

since I have everything outside in the garage, I have a TON of room under the tank and could easily put even a 55, but I dont want to manage that much water for a qt.

I have one sitting in the garage, But I need to move my tank back in front of the Fishroom. Then I can move my Frag tank and Q tank into the fosh room and have plenty of Power to run it all.
That's a long story, I was up until 2:00 AM running Ext cords to get my tank going, Seems I blew the GFCI in the Bedroom the tanks in now!
Bill

that stinks bill. Gotta love a blown GFCI. I installed a brand new one for my tank. the inside is on one GFCI and the outside on another both on seperate breakers. so if one goes, I will always have circulation.

I am going to try to work up a trade on that JBj nanocube I have and the CPR BakPak Fuge.

WAIT. up till 2 am running cords! no wonder you were posting at 1:45 this morning. I was thinking old men never sleep!

haha, They don't. Thats why he was up, j/k Bill.

Thanks for the heads up. I agree with either dipping or quarintining anything now also. After my fight with ich, any fish is getting QT'ed from now on! I always dip all the corals I put in.

Tank is doing ok. Recovering from some browning because of getting lax on some things (this was a couple months ago, things take a while to get back into the swing).

I did, however, just finish acclimating my 1.5" juvi blueline angel from liveaquaria. This little dude is so cute I want to fish him out and give him hugs.

I heard you bought some of those Blue Eyed Cardinal fish from SA (AC) Are they Awesome or what? I bought the last three they had and they School real neat. They are my new favorite fish's, Aside from my Cherub Angel I've had from the start of this tank.
