LET ME straighten something out right now

I do not know whether this is true or not. I said that I HELP Scott out with his tanks. I do not work for him and am in no way affiliated with his store. I got a call from a person that knows a person that said that people were calling Scott trying to figure out who I am. These individuals are 30+ years old and from what I hear are calling this man, distracting his work day.

This is A BULLETIN BOARD!! I am in no way affiliated with or work for any store in town (or all of Colorado for that matter) - period. There is no store that retains me for information purposes. If I am asked a questions, I answer it. If you have a question - ask me directly.

quote from tominicane:"I am the marine bioloy guy that works down at Scott's shop"
huh? you say in the above post you dont work for him?????

"I have had my business license since 96 and been selling in colorado springs for about that amount of time"

you also say in the above post "I am in no way affiliated with or work for any store in town (or all of Colorado for that matter) - period

Dont look at us like were idiots, were just going off of what YOU said.

BTW I didnt ask scott about you, must have been someone else.
Chris

You could at least quote it correctly.

"I am the marine biology guy that works down at Scott's shop with his tanks and helps others around town"

Meaning that I will occasionally help. But that in no way says that I am employeed by his store. When people walk in and see me testing his water or treating fish - that is all that I am there for. I don't get paid, and then I leave

"I have had my business license since 96 and have been selling in Colorado Springs for that amount of time."

How does that make me a store though?

"Don’t look at us like were idiots, were just going off of what YOU said."

Is everyone in this state like this? Just paranoid for no reason. WHEN did I ever say that someone that was responding in a courteous manner was an idiot? or even imply it? If you want to continue to make false accusations and insinuate things about me, I will continue to prove them all wrong.

well you said you worked down at scotts how is that misquoting you? I assumed you worked there by that statement, why didnt you just say you help scott out occasionally?
I didnt go to college, I am a ditch digger literally, so i just saw you say you worked there, and i'm sure everybody here has more education than me so maybe i am the only idiot, and they all knew what you meant, sorry for the post.

The perceived problem is very easily solved. Don't offer to sell anything in an RC forum and there's no conflict. Frankly, I like having another experienced person to bounce ideas off of, and to provide yet another perspective on the many issues we experience (like redbugs!).

What you do is WORK!! I mean WORK! But what I do is technically work also. If I am standing in front of a room full of people off of I-25 down at the Sheraton, I am working. If I am checking things, I am working - if someone I know calls me and trys to talk to me while I am responding to a post on this board, I am working.

Aquariums, Oceanic Life, water chemistry, molecular compositions, and species identification is my life - as is anything that pertains to it. WHAT you do, is no less honorable then what I do. You could have never graduated the 5th grade, and I still would have enjoyed talking to anyone on this board about anything pertaining to marine life. Not to mention that I am online 24/7 when I am not "working".

Once again, someone told me about this board. I logged on and was enjoying a conversation only to have that crushed half way through on the basis of nothing. I can not apologize for knowing the answer. However EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD AND IN THIS CITY!!! needs to understand that I don't view anyone as anything less then an equal in the hobby. I am sure there are many questions that I can answer that others can't, while I am sure there are even more questions that those other people can answer that I can not.

When my invite was accepted to the board, I saw it going differently. I didn’t want excess respect. Just wanted my background noted. All the sudden I was in a group of basically peers in the Midwest as someone that could really contribute. There goes that.

Ok everyone. I have checked into this, and here is what I have come up with. John, you do have an online shop that is a conflict of interest on this forum. http://www.scaquatics.com/ is a retail operation and thus not able to sell on Reef Central forums. RC does have a Vendors section for it's sponsors and that may be an avenue you can pursue. We have had problems in the past with retailers and the possibility of the moderators shutting down SCMAS is very real. There are no rules keeping commercial entities from posting information on RC but that is all.

Also, there are very knowledgeable people in this hobby, and in these forums and nobody is thumping their own chests. It feel it would be good edicate not to start fires your first two days on the forums and maybe sit back a read what some of these people have contributed to this hobby (good or bad).

well for one, if you spend any amount of time in any Reef Central board you know that people will jump in and disagree with you, its always going to be that way. Dont get all excited over that. You need you leave your degree (if you actually have one) at the door. And take your 17,000 hours of diving exp. (if thats true) and check that in at the door also. Once you get over all that its a fun place :) Just get off the Biologist pedestal and jump in as a hobbiest and we'll be best buddies.
Dont take stuff personal, this is the internet! its different than the "real world"
Chris

I didn't plan on selling anything. I planned on being here for information purposes. But thanks for posting the site, I got about (so far) 28 sales from that and I didn't break any regulations

I'm going to leave my everything at the door, and just watch. Regardless of what someone is saying that is wrong or how they may be telling someone something that is inaccurate - I will just watch. Doesn't bother me one way or the other. I was invited, the invitation did not work out, so then you don't just leave - you courteously hang around. Opinions are pointless as it appears because of the fact that someone will always try to contradict what you say based on 15 year old information.

Meaning...

Let's just put it like this: online, noone knows what you MEAN, only what you SAY. You SAID you work down at Scott's. If you had come back as just SAID that you mistated and MEANT to imply that you help out at Scott's, that would have been the end of the issue. And, it looks to me that you are the one being paranoid for no reason. You were given some friendly advice about how the moderators would react to someone on the retail side of the fence. You got defensive when you could have cleared it up by SAYING what you MEANT initially. Get a grip, dude. If you don't like it, step off.

I'm getting tired of these threads; can you tell?

Don't care

OK...now at some point you have disrespected most of the people on this board.

Well a couple of things...NO ONE in this hobby has a monopoly on the truth. This goes for people with PHD's, 20 year hobbyists, writers on the hobby, etc...we really don't need you for "information purposes"...you are not some reef tank guru. You are equal to everyone else...period.

Second there is a standard of ethical behavior we try to maintain with this club...you have totally misrepresented yourself. You said you work at Scott's then back peddled. You never told anyone you owned an online shop, some folks researched that on their own, finding that you lied.

Folks, fellow members. this is exactly why I have been so vehement to keep fish stores separate from the club. People will always try to use this reef club for their personal gain, it's happened in the past and continues to occur.

One last thing, for a guy claiming to be a marine biologist, AND a writer your sentence fluency is at about the 9th grade level.

Yeah I can see that. I mentioned something in the first post, then never offered anything again because someone pointed out the rules. So take this to heart.......

Don't care

Surely you jest...I guess that's why RC saw fit to wipe out many of your posts. Please man...give it up. You'd better care if you want to continue to post here. You have tee'd off on too many folks...your rope is growing shorter by the minute...
