Hello spanglish! Very nice fish. He does look a little different to mine when his fins are extended/flashing. The body and coloring look very similar though. How big is he? It could be that he is still young and not developed yet.

An eight line has a very distinct look when they flash. They're fins look as though they are all joined up circling the bodyapart from the head like a halo effect. Yours might just not have grown them complete yet. Not sure what the young ones look like. Good question.

My photos on the previous page have dissapeared so I'll post them again now to compare. I'll first post a couple really showing the flash look I mention above. These ones arn't the best pics of the fish but show the flash well. Hope these help a bit;

That is just a beautiful fish!!! are they a tough fish to keep or any more difficult than other flashers?

The 8 line video is gorgeous but too short any more out there? I think that would be my fav fish if it werent so expensive

The eight line video is too short I agree. We kept all our videos down to 1Mb or 10sec real time for the site. That was a year ago and maybe with the advance of broadband we'll extend the video lengths to 30sec.

Hiroyuki and Bronco, you two seem to be very knowledgable about the Flashers, I got a Carpenters Flasher a couple of days ago and he's already really comfortable and swimming around in the open, not even retreating into the rocks when I come right up to the tank anymore. My question for you is, I was thinking about getting another Flasher, either another Carpenters Flasher, a Blue Flasher or even an Excuisite Fairy wrasse. My LFS currently has the Carpenters and the Excuisite in stock. Would my current Carpenters be ok with the Excuisite? I've got a 55 gallon with 5 Green Chromis, a pink bar goby and a black percula. Right now, those are the only inhabitants besides the coral. There's plenty of rockwork for them to play in. One last question, currently I've got a barebottom tank, will that stress the Flasher's and fairy wrasses, should I put down some live sand for them? I've got plenty from my other tank that I can use, I've just kind of been enjoying the ease of cleaning a barebottom aquarium. But I know that many wrasses burrow under the sand when stressed and I want to do what's best for the fish with a stress free environment. Sorry for the long post, but you guys seem to really know what's best with these awesome little fish! Thanks for your help and I figure, it wouldn't be prudent of me to post questions without atleast contributing something, so here's a pic of my new little buddy.

First of all that's a very nice looking wrasse. Congratulations.

Yes, you can add an Exquisite with your Carpenter and they should get along fine.
Fairy & flasher wrasses do not bury themselves in the sand like other wrasses. So sand is not an absolute need for them. However sometimes the reflection of a bare bottom tank may lead them to rub their mouths up against the bottom of the tank. But in an aquarium that has many places to hide, this may not be a problem so I'd say don't worry about the sand right now.

could i keep a carpenter flasher wrasse and a sixline wrasse together if the flasher is added first? thanks

I would not advise doing that. Sixlines have a nasty attitude towards these types of wrasses. More often than not they end up being the dominant personality in the tank and attack the more docile flasher and fairy wrasses. Specially of the flasher is his size or smaller.
