Don't know if anyone else has had this happen. Last night our mantis (we suspect N. austrinus, thanks Dr. Roy), decided it was finally going to become social. 
Up til this point, he hasn't come out of his burrow, except to take food from the straw, but last night he was out exploring the tank, digging under every rock. He finally decided a hermit crab looked tasty. Not just any hermit, the biggest one in the tank. When he decided on this one, he climbed in the shell with the hermit, and we heard Clink....Clink...Clink. About 5 minutes after the mantis finished beating the crab and went back in the burrow, the hermit used his two remaining legs and 1 remaining claw to walk around. :eek1:
