Lets make waves!

Next month I would like to increase my water flow with some wave action. I have about 2400gph flow in a 150gal tank right now.

I do have a reefkeeper 2 on the system that has a spot for a couple of pumps. Does anyone have any recommendation on what type to use and how much flow to put in it?

Tracy, my Main return has a (now overhauled) 3/4" Sea-Swirl, and I've had to split the return into two different Loc-Line nozzle heads, just to keep stuff from getting blown around the inside of my 120. Now, I want to add another one, and step-up my Main pump output pressure. :p

I recall that you had a really cool integral Closed-Loop set-up, but do you also have any Sea-Swirls, or the like? (There are none in this older shot, circa Oct. 2008(?) Which reminds me: you need to post some current pictures mate.)

Here's your 150 Cube, for those unfamiliar:

I do believe that the new Koralia Magnum powerheads will work on your reefkeeper wave maker cycles

Man I really do need to update my pics. When I origanally set it up I plumbed in a Squid on the closed loop system but the silly Squid started getting stuck after the first day. So I put in a T and just let it run as 1200gph direct flow. I also have a Mag12 as the main return pump.

I have ordered a couple of the maxi jet1200 with the 1600 mod. These are pretty cheap and will let me see if this will work. They will probably burn up pretty quick though being turned on and off all the time. We will see.

....which is why the Sea-Swirls might be a better option for you. They are more robust, and designed for continuous operation by redirecting the main output pressure.

Granted, I hate that they're so expensive, but they're also unobtrusive. (I just don’t want to see any Koralia-like “blowers” in my tank personally. It seems way out of place, esthetically.)

And has anybody ever had any good luck with a "squid"? I've only ever heard the horror stories.

Post some new Tank shots!
