OMG, I was just browsing through all these coral threads trying to find what I would like to buy. I am still extremely new to corals. I thought these colors looked really cool but still don't know the difference between the brain, scoly, acan. I saw some post above mentioned tentacles which I didn't know they had. So I did a search for scoly and found some videos of them extending the tentacles to eat and it blew my mind. I thought they were hard like rocks. I have got to get one of these they are awesome.

Now question time. Do those colors look the same under normal lights and just pop more under the blues? I want to go looking for these at my LFS but they will probably have white lights on.

I will also try and find the difference between the other brains. Great thread and awesome pictures.

The color should be there but just not as exagerated under whiter light. Generally if you can see good strong color in a white light then you shouldn't be disappointed. Also, corals that have "dimmed" some or browned a litt can very well color back up into a real beauty. Those are the diamonds in the rough that you can get a great deal on. You'll get used to seeing the signs, the more you look at corals at your LFSs.

Ya pretty much, another point is under actinics the very thing that excites the flourescence in corals pretty much moots everything else making it seemingly 'pop', while under normal lights your eyes get more distracted by everything that you can see, flourescing or not.

Back on topic however, here's another new addition just to the left of the lil guy
bruddabrain.jpg

Sadly my rainbo'ish looking second guy succombed to brown jelly, and is all but but a few booger skids on a clean white skeleton  A complete fluke, I do beleive between acclimating to my tank and a burrowing crab just was too much for it's immune system..perams and all other creatures were perfect..

so what would be Trachy No. 5 to my collection has turned into No.4, but im finding sollace with this guy..

WOW!!!! These are brillant guys!! I would kill for some of those. I have to know what kinds of lights all you guys are running to make them pop like that!!!

Thanks

When ATI first came out, years ago. IMHO they were the best, but after they left D&D manufacturing, and Geisemann is now with D&D I only use Geisemann and UVLighting, front to back:

UVLighting Super Actinic+
Gmann's Actinic+
Gmann's Aquablue
UVLighting Super Actinic+
Gmann's Actinic+
Gmann's Pure Actinic

As you see, one day bulb in the middle of blue, purple, and blue/purple. Seems out of all the combos I've tried this get's the best pop, and doesnt bleach my stuff as easily as it use to. I think people get too hung up on PAR levels and stare at there spreadsheets instead of looking at what it's doing to the corals. Way too easy to give too much light with T5, and more often than not is the contribitor to bleached, pastel, or faded corals..again, in my experiences and opinion.

side note

side note

I also fire my bulbs closer to true specs, than overdrive which quite a few set ups are overdriving there stuff wondering why they keep burning corals up..Ice Cap users...;) makes a huge difference!
