I've done a ton of research on these little guys for months now, and im probably going to get a tank for my bday in about a month...I'd like to see some setups for ideas on aquascaping, filtration, livestock, etc...Provide lots of detail!

I am getting ready to get some too.And may be a pipe fish. Does any one have these? Could use some pointers before i get them!

BE CAREFUL WITH THE LIVE ROCK-LOTS OF WEIRD CREEPY CRAWLERS CAN COME OUT OF THAT !
Very true....most of the time. However, live rock from seawaterexpress.com is hydroid free, so you can use it in dwarf setups. I'm getting my live rock on Thursday.

I do have a dwarf tank, but just no dwarves yet. I plan on getting them in a month or two.

Feel free to ask any more questions!

If you do a search, those of us with dwarfs have posted pics and given info on our tank setups numerous times. If you have any questions after finding the old posts, ask away. We'd be glad to help.

Is this a dwarf? It's at the very least 9 months old? About 3" long I guess? I have a pair...they were black when I bought them and finally turned yellow like they were suposed to.

This is the 12 gal Nano where they live. I don't know what a pipefish is, sorry.
I also don't know how to post multiple pics or links yet.

I have no clue what those are, but they are not dwarfs. Dwarf seahorses normally attain a size no more than 1 and a half to 2 inches.

Aiie, my guess would be that they are h. Kuda, but I could be wrong.

What do you mean "turn yellow like they were supposed to"? Seahorses have a wide range in colors, each being unique and different. No species has an absolute set color. Yellow is very beautiful in a seahorse, but so is black. Can you please clarify what you mean by that?

Next time I go, I'll ask and maybe then we can all know. I'll bring the computer woth me so that I can show them what we are chattering about.<a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZCxdm238YYUS%2526i%253D16%252F16%255F5%255F33%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_5_33.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D16%252F16_5_33/image.gif"></a>

Reddi? A type of seahorse or just a slang term....sorry to ask.
Thanks Sunfishh! Itis my young tank a little over a year old. Got it just for the seahorses.

What do you guys use as filters for darwf seahorses? a sponge filter? I think i am ready for some, having experience with the sea horse i have now and the mandarin. Plus i could go to the grass flats were i live and net a bunch. how many would you say could live comforatbly in a 2.5-3 gallon hex?

A sponge filter would definitely work. An "Azoo Palm" filter is also widely used by dwarf enthusiasts.

I would be kind of iffy on gathering grasses, they could come with hitchhikers and many other unwanted things. It would be better to get it from an online source, another tank...etc.

In a 2.5-3 gallon, I would start off with anywhere from 4 to 10 or so.

If you already have horses, you will find that dwarves and they have many of the same needs, but also many different ones. For instance, dwarves need 2-3 feedings of live brine shrimp every day...etc....So, I would recommend that you get the book "The Complete Guide to Dwarf Seahorses in the Aquarium" by Alisa Wagner Abbott. That will really help you.

Good luck, HTH.
