Define rare.
Rare in nature? Very few clowns are actually rare in their natural range. Leucokranos and thiellei are rare in nature because they are likely hybrids.

Rare in the trade? Species like nigripes, tricinctus and chrysopterus are not rare in nature, but they are in a PITA for wholesalers and retailers because they ship so poorly, so they aren't available very often.

Rare because they have unusual patterns? Picasso, naked and snowflake clowns are clowns with unusual patterns of very common species.

Rare because they live in protected or isolated areas so they can't be easily collected and/or transported? Mccullochi, omanensis and fuscocaudatus live in protected waters. Chrystogasters live around a few remote islands.

You might get better results if you make a list of the species you would like to see. You might consider a true sebae clown or a bicinctus to be quite rare, while I see them quite often.

wow thats just soooo sick. first time ever seeing the thiellei, i've seen the leucokranos pics before but never the thiellei and now i definatly want one.

is the little fella paired? and how much do they go for?

I wish I could find another one to pair him up with. As far as price I have no idea I've never seen another one. I can't even find but only a few pics of another.

A. McCullochi. It appears to be from a japanese blog...I don't read japanese, but these two appear to be captive. Perhaps there is yet hope to see these in the trade someday soon...

Slakker, those are some pretty cool clowns, I have never seen anything like them before. Def. something that we will hopefully start to see being brought into the US.

I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing these soon. There is an AU breeder (and former RC member mrblue) breeding and raising them.

Given the prices paid in Japan, he would be silly to send them to the US at the early stages.

Not that I would mind having a pair of course ;>)

Is he breeding them now? I remember he got a permit to collect 10 pairs but I have not seen anything in forever about them

Maybe soon was to optimistic Scott, although in the world of acquiring mc's soon could mean, oh maybe five yrs . I'm sure there's a few of us crazy clown folk that would pay a decent price for them, so hopefully they'll make their way over within a year or so.

Yes Jov, he is breeding them. He has a nice thread on another forum with fry pics. I believe he collected four spawning pairs when he went out.
