The background of both my tanks are black. I really like the idea of a gradient of blue to mimic more of what you would actually see in the reef, but...........unless you are prepared to not have any equipment in your tank (overflows, powerheads, cords, etc.) it doesn't seem to work out. The equipment really jumps out at you with a blue background as opposed to black.
Of course I have so much live rock that you can't see my background anyway!
I went with black on my 210...but in a few months it likely won't have mattered since it will be purple and green as the coraline covers the rest of it!
Ok...do you all clean the back glass so that your background shows? My tank was only up for about 7 months in the shot above and is quickly getting covered with coraline...I can't imagine the work it takes to keep it clean!
This is a piece of plexiglass that i spray painted one side black and the other blue, this is the blue side. It looks very dark but still slightly blue, you can compare the black overflow to the background.
