Lets see your coraline growth!

Well after posting some pics of my tank (a thread on having my tank running for one year) i had a lot of comments on the amount of coraline growth in the one year that I've had my tank running. So I just want to see everyone else's coraline growth, whether its lots or a little, new or old tank. Its NOT a competition, just an excuse to show other fellow reefers your tank as well. Before and after pics would be great if you have them (if not, oh well) Please NO photoshopping (as you can see from my corals and the fish (powder blue tang) in the pic, mine were not photoshopped at all)
You can even see all my snails and crabs that are on the sand are covered (can't run from it , LOL). Can there be such thing as too much coraline and can it affect your tank in a negative way??

Here's mine if you havn't came accross it:

Now (1 year later to the day):

i am ashamed to post my pic, lol. WOW, you really have it going on. I just bought some from a guy shutting his tank down and it is covered like yours. hopefully it spreads to the rest of mine.

All my LR is covered, but it certainly didnt take just a yr.Nice job.Scrape the coraline off the back glass,& your LR,& corals will really pop.

are you using purple up or anything?

Off topic, but how do you answer multiple post or quote in one reply. So, sorry if I have multiple replies in a row.

No, i'm not using purple up. I've read in many places that stuff doesn't really work anyway. I just keep my calcium at stable 440-450, ALK 10-11 and mag 1350-1400. I heard stability and good lighting really growing good. Thanks

Ya, i think the more you have in a tank the faster it spreads. Seems like mine took for ever to start blooming (but i didn't have much to start with on any of my rock, just a few spots on some of the rock), but when it did, it didn't stop. Thanks for looking

How do you keep it from growing on the sand?

Do you vacuum it? Replace it?

I don't ever really see it on the sand. I do stir up the top 1/2" of sand once and a while, but not for that reason. thanks

That's one thing i've never tried cleaning (the back glass) for the reason that it would be hard to get around the rock and the way my canopy is set up. I know what you mean thow, it would look alot better if the back glass and overflows were clean. Its definately a flaw in my set up that i would never do again (I was a newbie when i did the aquascaping, not that i'm not really one now, LOL) I'm definately going to clean it one day very soon (i just have to take off my canopy). I can't use a magnet scraper like i do on the front and sides because there is just too much going on back there (wires, plumbing). What would be the best way to clean the overflows or should i just leave those????thanks for the suggestion and comment!

i hate coraline algae personally... blast it with light and dose vodka and it will slow/stop growing and start to recede IME :D

i just cant stand scraping that crap off of the glass, no matter how good it looks on the rocks

Awsome coraline growth, what salt mix are you using and what are you dosing?

I'm using ReefCrystals and not dosing anything right now since i hooked up a calcium reactor a couple months ago. Before that i was making my own two part or using brightwell aquatics two part. Thanks

I definately blast it with light and think that's one of the reasons it grows so much. I don't have much of a problem with it on the glass since i keep on top of it and just use a magnet cleaner a couple times a week. As for vodka dosing, i don't really want to start that for the coraline reason. thanks for looking

Here's mine. You see where the coralline growth cuts off at about 8 inches from the top? It'a like that because when I used to do water change I would turn off the return pump, siphon about 8" of water out of the main display(along with detritus and other unwanted). This "low tide"situation killed off the coralline at the exposed portion of the tank. lately I have been siphoning water from my sump instead and now coralline algae is again starting to grow back.

That's funny because mine was doin the same thing (but only about 4"-5" from the top). I also started doing my water changes from my sump. I just do smaller water changes more frequently.
Nice tank by the way. Looks HUGE! I can only wish, maybe one day. thanks for posting your pic.
