That is a sweet representation of the Red Planet!
What lighting are you using?

Thanks! Its currently under 250 Watt Radiums on SLS HQI ballasts. I also run 4 T5 actinics too. Though I'm considering switching to some 14Ks at some point to see if it helps speed up growth.

I am using the same bulbs but on a SLS Bluewave 7 M80 ballast.
I used to run phoenix 14k DE and I am much happier with the radiums for sure!

Well, then we're basically running the same bulb/ballast combo. I don't know if my lack of growth is because of a need for more intense light/different spectrum or some other factor in my water chemistry I'm overlooking? :fun5:

My red planet loss it's green base color within 2 weeks in my tank. Does anybody know how I can get it back? It was 10" below my 250w 10K EVC for 8 months and 2 months ago, I have moved it down to 15" below 250w 14K Phoenix. So far still no sign of green...

This was mine in July . It's changed to a more purple color . I went fron t-5 ice-cap pre with ati's to a Electronic MH with lumenbright 250 / 20 k reeflux . I will try to get a recent pic up .

I almost killed this one 6 months ago but its slowly but surely recovering and is now developing more of a green base. Its still not in the best shape but its getting there. Here it is....If anybody wants I can post a picture from 6 months ago when it was almost dead. sorry about the bad picture

Its not growing up as fast as I would like but its growing out like crazy, is this normal?

I've found that lower light is required to keep the vibrant green base. Higher light with more yellow/red spectrum (like in most 10k bulbs) will create colors like in the coral above.

This is not the ORA RP, it my A. Hyacinthus - I think they are the same:

Here is the frag I kept when I sold my 250g

Where do you guys keep yours? Mine is bleaching 2" off the sand bed. The tank is 20" tall with a 400w Reeflux 12K 16" off the water, so effectively 33" from the light. I put it low to start it acclimating, but short of growing it in the shade, it's about as far from the light as I can get it.
