Let's See Your Superman Montiporas!

Bongo Shrimp

P. ceratophthalma
So I just got a huge colony of superman monti but I don't know if it is just from shipping or what, but the polyps are much less red and the tissue is less blue than in the WYSIWYG pic from the place I got it from.

I'll get a pic of it soon but in the mean time, I want to see yours!

And if possible, I'd like to know what you do to make it happy. Mine is in a 29g Biocube with the 5.6 Nanotuners LED upgrade with 15 white and 15 blue Cree XR-E LEDs.

Here is my frag. Superman is sensitive to changes. First one I got stn'd and died. When I got a second one it was nice blue and red, after a few weeks in my tank it lost a lot of the blue. But it came back it took a while but it is looking good and growing nicely. I keep mine in high light and high flow. Superman likes strong lighting, I got my from a store that used 400 XM 20ks and I use a 250 Phoenix. The best ones I have seen are under 400 halides.

I have mine under 400w 20k Icecaps and it is a beautiful orange and purple. I am told it's a superman even though there isn't even a hint of blue or red.

Hmm, right now (and without cutting it to fit) there is really only one place it can go and not be ontop of or touching another coral. Problem is, it is off to the side of the LEDs. So I'm not sure if it will get enough light.

Some other people have told me that it might just need to get used to the new environment and I should just leave it alone for a while. -_-

I have found the superman to be very sensitive to alk swings. I have had min for almost a year with beautiful blue base and red polyps it is high up under 400 watters. I had a tempory alk dip and half the Monti bleached. It was the only coral in the tank to suffer that hard. I think it's making a comeback.

I think it also depends on whether you have the "True" Superman Monti, or the Aquacultured Superman. I've heard that the aquacultured superman is more prone to losing its color/vibrance, but is a faster grower, and the "true" superman monti maintains its color more consistently and grows slower... course this could all be a ploy by the evil LFS's trying to create hype over a piece that does not really exist (who knows).

I have what is referred to as the "True" Superman Monti, and like others have said, I keep in high in the tank with plenty of flow under my 250W 15,000K MH. It's just a small frag and is a slower grower... but I'll see if I can get a pic soon.

I have a true superman, its nice to know the lineage behind your corals. Mine is slow to medium grower but I have seen the mother colony grow fast under good conditions.

Mine's about that size. I haven't really measured it yet but is a little less than the length of my 29g biocube. Nice colors BTW.

I think mines the real deal. Certainly not aquacultured just by looking at the rock it is on and knowing where I got it from.

there are a ton of "superman" monties out there. many of them have the red polyp/blue base but are not very vibrant or colorful. It is a tough coral to buy without seeing it due to the fakes out there. Try to let it settle in and hope for the best. Mine is a little more tempermental than other encrusting monties.

I got mine in person at world wide they had them both, the real and the fake. I got the real and it does awesome under 8x54 tek light all the way up top
