Lets Talk About Fish Tank Support - Electrical Question

Our house has fire sprinklers and there is a sprinkler head mounted directly above the reef tank (in-wall to a fish room/closet).

Ive read your post a couple times now Warren and im not quite sure what your saying about the sprinkler. But water and electrical fires dont mix well either in fact it can make them much more dangerous and all the more reason to have a GFI. If im misunderstanding your post i appoligize.

Yep...
I know the current thread where this sad thing happened and a GFCI tripped, BUT

I have NO idea what you're talking about Steve:eek1:

Yes, GFCI's can and do trip for no apparent reason, as I can very recently attest to, but everything will remain on GFCI circuits for me even with this recent, uh, setback.

My current plan, until I move at least, is to find another circuit and use a GFCI outlet purely to handle and additional pump for each tank and a heater. If the main tank GFCI trips, I will have the backups so water will still circulate and remain at least relatively warm. If both trip, well I'm still screwed, but the likelihood is slim. From here on out, CYA as much as possible, but still be sensible.

that's what i'm doing. full tank system on gfci. heater and one pump on seperate outlent/breaker.

My new tanks been running since July and I had a GFI Trip once, leaving me without a chiller. I reset it and it seems to be holding. One time event with no apparent cause. No water contact? Must have been a Chiller start-up spike.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's a rare occurrence:confused:

I have several GFI's for the equipment in the area and they will shut off the electricity long before the sprinkler gets to 155 degrees and turns on the water. Also, if I'm not mistaken, water onto an electrical fire would also trip a GFI.
