I stumbled upon this Metal Halides on aquatraders.com

Its the first metal halide 48" strip I've seen that I can actually afford, which leads me to the question: Whats wrong with it? I'd like to put it on my 75gal. reef when I get it together...can anyone shed some light on this for me? (hah. pun intended!!)

Also if anyone has recommendations regarding lighting for someone looking for not only a pretty tint but also some nice coral growth...lemme know!! I will readily admit to not completely understanding watts...kelvins...spectrum but I'm very interested in reading as much as I can about all of it.

again, sorry for being such a n00b.

Aquatraders have been know to be cheap light fixture, I have heard of some that caught fire. I have also read people that loved them. The color all depends on what kind of lighting you choose. IMO I would go with raw ballast MH with T5 supplement if you are looking for low cost. I think virginiareef had a 4' fixture for sale . 2 x 175 mh with pc supplememt. Paul chime in if you still have it. best thing is to look at other light set ups so that you can see the difference in color.

Thank you, Ade! I really do need to schedule a time with some of you guys to get out and look at your setups.. I have a notebook full of sketches, plans, dollar figures, and details but I agree with you that I need to see other working tanks to really get a feel for what I want to accomplish with my own stuff.

On that note... I'm almost always off on Mondays and Tuesdays. If anyone within an hours drive of Blacksburg wouldn't mind a visit on wither of those days please let me know! :)
