Let's talk Blue Throat Trigger Fish

A bummer to hear but that is completely normal bt behavior and it often does not improve over time. As much as triggers are my weakness I recommend against adding bt, probably the only trigger I would say "no" to.

Another issue with them is that the males often lose their color.

So many other beautiful triggers to look to.

My male was extremely shy other than feeding time. He was bullied by a yellow angel of roughly the same size. The bright yellow fins and blue throat faded after a couple weeks. A few weeks ago I took a chance and added a female. He's much more social now and will not allow the yellow angel to mess with the him or the female. They're not bonding (I don't believe), but she has made a huge difference in the tank's dynamics. I'm noticing some yellowing on the fins and a more blue coming back. Even with less color, by far my favorite personality wise.

I just got a blue throat a week ago and he spends almost all his time in the rocks. VERY skittish. Is this normal for them when they are new? Other than the first couple hours I don't think he got bullied by the yellow tang and hippo. I've got a 240 and they are all kind of mid-sized.

I'm starting to get worried. He was QT'd for like 3 was but was eating well. Now I don't know as when he sees me he dives for the rocks and stays there.

IME, mines was like that for around 2 months. Very shy, but as he settled in and established he began to come out more and more. Now he is front and center of the tank all the time looking for food. He grunts and spits are the time now trying to get my attention. Now I might have to get rid of him because my wife is getting mad at me because he is spitting the saltwater onto the hardwood floors. LOL.

Even my crosshatch is shy... Never had one that was this shy nobody bothering him... I do have this sunken ship in my fish only aquarium.. He spends a lot of time in there

It really depends mine spent part of the day wedge in the rocks everyday.. He hid a little more in the beginning like most fish do but he was not skittish after a week or so, matter of fact he used to be super friendly. He used to squirt water at me (funny at first annoying latter. He also squirted water at the auto feeder.

I latterly could pick him up out of the water when I need to catch him and he would croak.

But he spent part of the day wedged with his fin in his cave.

One of the coolest fish ever.
Loved to eat chopped clams and a sheet of nori a day. They require a pretty good filtration system.

He was fine with most fish except small chromis he would try to eat them.
