Lettuce Sea Slug accident

I added an MP40w powerhead to my tank yesterday and forgot about my lettuce sea slug (elysia crispata.) Today, just as I looked at my tank, he was sucked into the blades and I saw pieces fly. I cursed and felt bad and then began to look for the pieces so he wouldn't rot in my tank. To my surprise I found him on an overflow climbing up it! Upon inspection, it seems he just got his a$$ chopped off. He probably lost 1/3 of his overall length. I scooped him out and put him in my refugium. Can sea slugs regenerate? Is there a chance he will make it or should I take him out of the tank and put him out of his misery before he rots away?

Well, since you have an MP40, I'm assuming you have a relatively large tank, so one nudi wouldnt hurt your system. I'd try to get him back to health

Well, it has been almost a full day since he was sucked into the powerhead and he is still alive. He's hanging onto the side of one of the mangroves in my refugium. My total water volume is around 120-130 gallons so if he does die it won't be that big of a deal but I've been checking on him every couple of hours just to make sure he's still alive.

Hi I was thinking of getting one I'm having a little bryopsis but want to make sure the little guy will eat it.how are they at eating that stuff pretty good will he make his way around the tank and get to it pretty good.thx's again for all the info..Brian

Only certain species will eat Bryopsis, and the slugs themselves often fall victim to various fish, inverts, or equipment. They also do not consume the algae, but rather suck out the chloroplasts and such, so they won't rid your tank of the alage. A good deal of thought and care needs to be put into any system slugs are placed in. They aren't super hardy CUC animals, like hermit crabs. They are more dedicated system animals, like jellies.
