Hey guys I'm looking for a cheap place where I can get an Acrylic sheet of at least 70"X70" 1/4. I'm looking to build my sump for my Cube build. Anyone have any ideas, is 1/4 OK for a sump? Thanks in advance Happy Hump Day!!
Its going to depend on how tall it is, to much water volume will make it bow. Most smaller sumps are made with 3/8". I belive home depot sells 1/4" 4×8 sheets.
I'm looking to make it 14" tall And the sump to hold minimum of 7" of water for a skimmer. I will check my local hardware stores but I was hoping I would find someone who knew someone that sold some for cheaper before I settled for retail. Thanks Gus I haven't checked but I will stop in at least to get an idea.
1/4" is fine for 7" of water, the baffles will provide the bracing support so it doesn't bow out. Do not use the acrylic at the big box stores. They are not cell cast acrylic, but extruded and junk. Do not use amazon as well, over priced in my opinion. I like this site: Delvie's Plastics. You can select the size piece you want and then specify exactly what size to cut it down to. You can have all your pieces prefabricated at no extra cost (or very minimal cost).
Oh and I should add that the sheets from them are cut precise but the edges are burred and need to be polished. Look at this video on flame polishing. This needs to be done prior to welding any pieces together.
