LF:Azure vase sponge

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think sponges die the second they touch air.

With that, it will be almost impossible to get a healthy specimen as it will change hands numerous times from the ocean ->distributor -> wholesaler -> local store/online store. Each one of those hand-off will expose the sponge to air briefly.

If money were no object, you can hire someone to legally collect one from the ocean and personally bring it into the country. ;)

They will not die instantly. The air gets trapped in the pores of the sponge which then slowly starves it.

Wouldn't the air bubble eventually get dissolved back in the tank water ?

Is it a non-photosynthetic coral that needs to be fed frequently ?
